Kemtal Glasgow, Gateway Churchโs executive pastor responsible for leadership across its various campuses, was recently terminated due to a “moral issue,” the church announced. The Southlake, Texas-based megachurch, conveyed the news via a video statement posted on YouTube by longtime church elder Tra Willbanks.
Announcement of Glasgowโs Dismissal
Willbanks explained that the church elders were informed of Glasgowโs moral failing last week. The elders believed the issue disqualified him from continuing his role at Gateway Church. Despite the dismissal, Willbanks emphasized that the church remains supportive of Glasgowโs family during this challenging period and encouraged the congregation to pray for them.
Transition of Leadership
Adana Wilson, the campus pastor at Gateway Church Frisco, will step into Glasgowโs role, according to Willbanks. Meanwhile, Gateway Churchโs executive director, Lawrence Swicegood, clarified that Glasgowโs dismissal was unrelated to the departure of the churchโs founder, Robert Morris, or any connected circumstances. Swicegood reiterated the church’s commitment to upholding integrity within its leadership.
Context of Leadership Changes at Gateway Church
The dismissal of Glasgow follows a series of leadership upheavals at Gateway Church. Robert Morris, the founder and former senior pastor, resigned after allegations of sexual abuse were made against him. The church has since undertaken an independent investigation into these allegations. This has led to several key figures, including Morrisโ son, James Morris, and founding elder Steve Dulin, stepping down or being dismissed.
Churchโs Future Outlook
Despite these challenges, the Gateway Church elders expressed confidence that James Morris and his wife, Bridgette, will eventually serve as senior pastors elsewhere. The elders acknowledged their past contributions to Gateway Church and conveyed their best wishes for the Morris familyโs future.
