Sheriff: More victims possible in Florida child sex abuse case

Accused of Repeated Abuse of Foster Children

Daniel R. Lamppin, 40, pleaded not guilty in Osceola County court last week to nearly 30 charges of child sexual abuse. Charges include 24 counts of sexual battery by a custodian, two counts of sexual battery, two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior, and one count of child abuse. Sheriff Marcos R. Lopez called Lamppin a “monster,” accusing him of repeatedly raping minors under his care.

Access Allegedly Gained Through Church and Employment

Lamppin reportedly gained access to children through his involvement with Connection Church in Kissimmee and his job at a local Chick-fil-A. While Sheriff Lopez stated that Lamppin served as a volunteer youth pastor, the church disputed this, claiming he was only a member and had no role with the youth. Executive Pastor Thomas Todd confirmed Lamppin has not worked with children at the church since at least 2008.

Two Former Foster Children at Center of Case

The case began in November 2024 when two former foster children accused Lamppin of prolonged abuse. One girl, placed with Lamppin in 2017 at age six, said the abuse began eight months later and continued until she was eight. Another former foster child alleged Lamppin began raping her shortly after she moved in at age 16 and continued doing so until she was 21.

Employment and Foster Status Under Scrutiny

Lamppin is no longer employed by Chick-fil-A, a company spokesperson told the Miami Herald, without elaborating. The Florida Department of Children and Families confirmed Lamppin has not held a foster care license since 2018. Sheriff Lopez noted Lamppin’s access to children through both church and work could indicate other victims.

Judge Denies Bond; Investigation Ongoing

A judge denied Lamppin’s bond and ordered no contact with minors, except for his biological son. He is also barred from discussing the case with his wife or family, who may be witnesses. Authorities continue investigating and have encouraged additional victims to come forward. Sheriff Lopez warned more charges could be added as new information emerges.
