Global Gathering Focuses on Urgency of Evangelism
Speaking to over 4,000 Korean pastors and 850 leaders from 124 nations, evangelist Rick Warren urged the global Church to embrace Jesus’ method of ministry. Addressing the World Evangelical Alliance’s 14th General Assembly in Seoul, Warren emphasized that Christians must not only teach Christ’s message but also adopt His model to reach the world by 2033 — the 2,000th anniversary of the Resurrection.
Warren, who led Saddleback Church for over four decades and baptized 54,000 new believers, warned that time is short. He noted the Church has an eight-year window to ensure every person hears the Gospel, aligning with the WEA’s global mission.
Five Biblical Practices Highlighted for Global Mission
Warren outlined five actions believers must take, based on Jesus’ ministry. Using the acronym PEACE, he called on Christians to: pass on the Gospel, equip disciples, alleviate suffering, continually pray, and establish new churches. He stressed that this transcultural model can work in any context — from deserts to megacities.
Referencing John 12:49, Warren highlighted what he called one of the Bible’s most overlooked verses. He said that Jesus’ obedience to the Father’s commandment for what to say and how to say it reveals the divine method for evangelism. “If there was a better way to win the world, Jesus would’ve used it,” Warren declared.
Concern Over Churches Ignoring Jesus’ Method
Warren warned that many churches adopt Christ’s message but ignore His method, thereby missing out on blessings. He criticized megachurches that neglect global missions and praised SaRang Church, which hosted the event, for its strong evangelical outreach.
He further explained that preaching and healing — the foundation of Christian missions — must be central to church activity. Christian hospitals and universities, he noted, were historically the first institutions in most nations due to this model.
Call to Action: Follow the Model, Not Just the Message
Warren challenged leaders to go beyond biblical knowledge and become doers of the Word. Citing Jesus’ teachings from the Gospel of John, he argued that discipleship, ministry to the suffering, and persistent prayer are non-negotiable.
He closed by urging the Church to fully commit to Christ’s method, saying, “If we learn not just the message but the method of Jesus, we will win the world in the next eight years.”
