Gunman Opens Fire on Dallas ICE Facility, Killing Two
Two people are dead and two are injured after a gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. CDT at the ICE field office on North Stemmons Freeway. According to the Dallas Police Department, the shooter fired from the roof of an adjacent building that housed an immigration law office.
Authorities confirmed that one victim died at the scene while another succumbed to injuries later at the hospital. The shooter, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Shooter Identified, Motive Still Unclear
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the shooting and noted that investigators found ammunition casings with โanti-ICEโ messages. While no official motive has been confirmed, officials suspect the attack was politically motivated.
Jahn was reportedly positioned on top of an immigration attorneyโs office, giving him a clear vantage point of the ICE building. Law enforcement stated that no ICE or law enforcement personnel were injured in the attack.
State and Federal Officials Condemn Violence
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the incident an โassassinationโ and pledged full support from state agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and National Guard. โThis assassination will NOT slow our arrest, detention, & deportation of illegal immigrants,โ Abbott posted on X.
Secretary Noem warned that ICE officers are facing โunprecedented violenceโ and emphasized the need for national attention. โIt must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families,” she said.
Community Leaders Call for Unity and Prayer
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson urged residents to come together in prayer for the victims. โWe are a country and a city that needs prayer,โ he said during a media briefing.
The shooting marks the second attack on a Texas ICE facility this year. Just one day prior, six women were charged in connection with a July 4 assault on the ICE Prairieland Detention Center.
