Antisemitism on the Right could divide Republican base, pastor says

Concerns Over Right-Wing Shift on Israel

Pastor Dumisani Washington, a prominent advocate for Christian-Jewish unity, has raised alarms about growing antisemitic rhetoric among right-wing figures. He warns that this trend could damage the Republican Party spiritually and politically, just as it has contributed to a decline in Democratic Party favorability. In an interview with The Christian Post, Washington, founder of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel, expressed concern, urging conservatives to push back against prominent voices like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens.

Democrat Decline Tied to Antisemitism, Pastor Claims

Washington, a registered independent, believes the Democratic Party’s failure to confront antisemitism has eroded its spiritual foundation. He cites recent polling showing record-low approval for Democrats, with only 27% of voters holding a positive view of the party. High-profile figures like Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are accused of promoting anti-Israel rhetoric without sufficient internal opposition from party leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

Carlson and Owens Face Criticism for Israel Comments

Washington criticized Carlson for platforming Munther Isaac, a Palestinian pastor accused of sympathizing with Hamas. Carlson has also interviewed controversial figures questioning basic historical narratives about World War II. Meanwhile, Owens, who parted ways with The Daily Wire in 2024, has faced backlash over comments labeling Israel’s actions as genocide and accusing it of enforcing “Jim Crow” policies. These statements led to her being named “Antisemite of the Year” by StopAntisemitism.

Pastor Urges Conservative Leaders to Speak Out

While affirming Carlson and Owens’ right to free speech, Washington insists Republican leaders must reject antisemitic narratives. He fears silence may allow fringe views to gain mainstream traction, mirroring the trajectory of the left. Without vocal opposition, he warns, conservatives risk alienating their pro-Israel base and facing divine consequences.
