Africa: The story of Pastor Mike and his legacy

At Christ Church Christian Care Center, also called 5C, in South Africa, they remember Pastor Mike Sunke daily for his tireless work. He founded this orphanage for unprotected children, where the priority is educating them and making them know God’s word. 

Pastor Mike Sunke. Mike was born on July 4 of 1947, in Durban, South Africa. He had a difficult childhood with needs, as he was from a large family of 8 siblings and alcoholic parents. But that didn’t stop him from finding his calling and serving the community until the last of his days.

When Mike died, Ajith, his son, gave up pastoralism to take over as CEO of 5C. The Christian Post published an article detailing the Pastor’s life and legacy:

“In 1999 a hotel went up for sale on Mitchell Street, on the edge of Hillbrow, and Mike raised money to buy it. ” He imagined filling this old hotel with as many children as possible,” recalls Ajith. “He visited countless churches, organizations, and businesses to raise funds.”
