Pope Francis undergoes emergency surgery

Pope Francis will rest until June 18 after emergency surgery for a hernia. The decision to subject the pontiff to surgery was made during a routine check-up on Tuesday, June 6.

According to his history, this medical complication resulted from a 2021 surgery to eliminate diverticular stenosis in the colon. He was finally operated on Wednesday and will remain hospitalized for several days as he recovers.

The Vatican stated that the operation was carried out without complications. The hernia was located in the abdomen, which caused Pope Francis a lot of pain. The news was reported by Italian media and confirmed by the Vatican on Wednesday.

Religions News published an article with details about it:

Francis, 86, had gone to the hospital on Tuesday for a routine check-up, where it was determined the operation was necessary. By the end of May, the pope had canceled all his meetings, citing health problems.
