Former President Trump rallies religious conservatives with odd promise

Former President Donald Trump addressed Christians at Turning Point Actionโ€™s โ€œBelievers Summitโ€ in West Palm Beach, Florida. Speaking to a crowd of religious conservatives, Trump emphasized his commitment to protecting religious freedom and supporting Israel. He urged Christians to vote in the upcoming election, promising that if elected, their concerns would be resolved to the point that political engagement would no longer be necessary. “You wonโ€™t have to do it anymore,” Trump stated. “Four more years, you know what? Itโ€™ll be fixed, itโ€™ll be fine. You wonโ€™t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians.”

Trump Promises Federal Anti-Christian Bias Task Force

Trump also announced plans to create a federal task force to combat anti-Christian bias and to defund schools promoting critical race theory and other controversial content. This was Trumpโ€™s second campaign speech since President Biden stepped down and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Trump criticized Harris extensively, labeling her as the “most extreme radical liberal president” if elected.

Turning Point Action, an advocacy group of Turning Point USA, organized the summit. Trump’s speech highlighted the importance of the upcoming election for religious conservatives, aiming to mobilize this crucial Republican voting bloc.

Trump’s Pledge to Christians: ‘You Won’t Have to Vote Again’

In another event, Trump said:

“You know, FDR, 16 years – almost 16 years – he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?”

His combined remarks have sparked controversy, especially given the backdrop of his previous attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, which culminated in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

Trump, in a previous interview, claimed he would act as a dictator only on “day one” to address specific issues like closing the southern border and expanding oil drilling.

The former presidentโ€™s comments highlight the high stakes of the upcoming election and the need for both parties to energize their base voters. Trump’s loyal evangelical support is crucial as he faces Kamala Harris, the new Democratic frontrunner following President Bidenโ€™s exit from the race. Recent polls indicate a tightening race, with Trumpโ€™s earlier lead over Biden diminishing as Harris steps into the spotlight.
