Worship Leader Alleges Massive Financial Misconduct
Chandler Moore, Grammy-winning singer and founding member of Maverick City Music, has filed a federal lawsuit against his former manager and the group’s CEO, Norman Gyamfi. The 33-page suit, filed on October 1 in Georgia’s Northern District Court, accuses Gyamfi of fraud, forgery, and the misappropriation of over $800,000 in royalties. Moore officially announced his departure from Maverick City Music a week later, on October 8.
Lawsuit Claims Forgery and Deception
According to the lawsuit, Gyamfi, acting as Moore’s manager, transferred Moore’s ownership rights, royalties, and creative control without his knowledge or consent. The most serious accusation includes forging Moore’s electronic signature on a 2022 deal with Sony Music’s The Orchard. This deal allegedly gave Maverick City Music Power of Attorney over Moore’s catalog and redirected royalties to Gyamfi-linked entities.
Web of Businesses Keeps Profits In-House
The suit names several Gyamfi-owned businesses—TRIBL Records, Insignia Holdings, and Maverick City Publishing—as vehicles used to reroute profits and copyrights. These companies span management, publishing, touring, and music rights, giving Gyamfi alleged control over Moore’s assets while presenting a conflict of interest in their professional relationship.
Maverick City Co-Founder Responds Publicly
Jonathan Jay, Gyamfi’s business partner and Maverick City co-founder, responded on Instagram. He called Moore’s claims “categorically false” and accused the artist of trying to escape valid contracts. Jay said the lawsuit was a “calculated attempt” to avoid accountability and alleged Moore had a pattern of unresolved conflicts and broken agreements.
Supporters and Critics Voice Concerns
Supporters of Moore view the lawsuit as a courageous stand against exploitative industry practices. Many in the gospel music community have expressed dismay over the breach of trust. However, critics argue that Moore may be using legal pressure to renegotiate or exit deals he once agreed to. The silence from Gyamfi has left many awaiting a more complete picture.
