Departure of Lead Singer Sparks Confusion
Christian promoter Faith Live canceled the Newsboys’ 2025 Canadian tour, citing a lack of transparency around former lead singer Michael Tait’s abrupt exit. The multi-city event, scheduled for May 31 through June 16, was called off after the group’s longtime frontman stepped down in January without prior notice. Sheena Hennink, founder of Faith Live, said the sudden change left fans confused and ticket sales struggling.
Faith Live Cites Integrity and Transparency Issues
Faith Live claimed it received no support from the Newsboys team in managing the transition to new frontman Adam Agee. Hennink said the group was asked not to speak about Tait’s exit, a position she believes compromised their values and trust with audiences. The promoter also alleged that they were forced to quadruple marketing efforts due to a lack of audience recognition of the new lineup.
Newsboys Blame Promoter for Collapse
In contrast, Newsboys accused Faith Live of breaching the agreement, saying the promoter failed to make artist deposits, confirm venue logistics, and manage production duties. The band emphasized they had no access to ticket revenue and could not issue refunds. They urged fans to contact ticket outlets or local consumer protection offices for compensation.
Supporters Praise Faith Live’s Decision
Supporters of Faith Live applauded the decision, saying it reflects the ministry’s commitment to integrity and spiritual discernment. Many shared concerns about how Tait’s departure was handled and agreed that transparency was lacking. Hennink emphasized that the tour was canceled only after prayerful consideration and wise counsel.
Detractors Call Out Failed Execution
Critics, however, argue that Faith Live mishandled the situation and failed to adapt to changes. Some say the cancellation reflects poor planning and a lack of professionalism. Others questioned why the promoter had not secured better communication and financial structures before committing to the tour.
