At a recent conference hosted by The Christian Post and Gloo, former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger encouraged Christian communities to engage actively with AI technology. Speaking at AI for Humanity: Navigating Ethics and Morality for a Flourishing Future at Colorado Christian University, Gelsinger stated that AI is โneither good nor badโ but has the potential to be โa force for good in this era.โ Now executive chair and head of technology at Gloo, Gelsinger emphasized AIโs power to drive positive change if guided by ethical principles.
Faith-Driven Vision for Technology
Gelsinger, a practicing Christian and former chief architect of key Intel innovations like USB and Wi-Fi, argued that AI could be a divine tool. He cited historical parallels, such as Roman roads aiding the spread of Christianity and Gutenbergโs printing press enabling the Reformation. He framed AI as a โGutenberg momentโ for the modern ageโfull of challenges, yet rich with transformative potential.
Advocating for Responsible AI Standards
Gelsinger called for the creation of AI benchmarks centered on human flourishing. Gloo has already developed a model evaluation framework to reflect these values. He also underscored the importance of respecting intellectual property rights as a foundational principle of ethical AI development. Gelsinger believes these standards are crucial to preventing misuse and fostering innovation that benefits society broadly.
Tackling Global Poverty Through AI
A significant focus of Gelsingerโs talk was AIโs capacity to address global inequality. He outlined a personal goal: educating every child on Earth through AI tools. With widespread internet access expected to reach 90% of the worldwide population soon, Gelsinger envisions AI breaking language barriers and delivering education in native tongues. โAI will enable us to conquer the other 6,000 languages,โ he said, referencing those not currently supported by translation technologies.
Divided Views on AI’s Role in Religion
Supporters applauded Gelsingerโs blending of faith and tech innovation, praising his vision for humanitarian impact. Critics, however, voiced concerns over placing too much faith in AIโs potential, warning that ethical misuse and unintended consequences remain real threats. Some Christian leaders cautioned against over-romanticizing AI without rigorous moral safeguards.
