Out of the Mouth of Babes

“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength  . . .” (Psalm 8:2)

Our middle child, Paul, married a wonderful young woman, Krystyana, whom we were so pleased to welcome into our family.

After a couple of years of marriage, they had a baby girl, Jordyn, who is now six years old and a never-ending source of fun and joy for my wife and me.

We live only about an hour away from Paul and Krys, so we see Jordyn frequently. On several occasions, we have had her for a weekend so her parents could have a bit of a vacation from parental duties.

Leaving the church . . .

Paul was raised to know Jesus as his personal Saviour. Krys grew up in the Catholic faith but did not know the experience of being born again. After they were married, they attended an evangelical church for over a year but had a bad experience there. They were on the lookout for another church but were a bit gun-shy, and so they settled into a Sunday routine that did not include church.

In the meantime, whenever we had Jordyn for a weekend, she slept between us in our bed. Before she fell asleep, we always prayed with her in Jesus’ name. One night, she asked us to pray for her preschool teacher, who was sick. So we did.

A little child shall lead them . . .

Unbeknownst to us, when Jordyn went back home, she told her teacher that we had prayed that Jesus would make her better, and her teacher cried. Jordyn also began to talk about Jesus quite a bit when she was around Krys. Krys thought, If Jordyn is interested in Jesus, I want to get to know Him better as well.

Around this time, Krys, who worked as the office manager at a chiropractic clinic, met a patient named Sarah. As it turns out, Sarah is the wife of the pastor of a newly formed church in the town next to where Paul and Krys were living. As that relationship grew, Sarah invited Paul and Krys to attend the church.

And coming back . . .

They went and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the messages by Sarah’s husband, Jeremy. The Holy Spirit was drawing Krys into a deeper relationship with Jesus, so she met with Pastor Jeremy to learn more about it. He explained the gospel and how Krys could ask Jesus into her heart. And she did.

From that time on, Krys, a dynamic personality, became deeply committed to her relationship with the Lord. She was soon baptized, and she and Paul became very involved in the church. Paul began playing guitar on the worship team, and Krys took on other ministries in the church body. Jordyn thrived in the children’s church and in her relationship with the other believers and was recently dedicated to the Lord at her church.

Now that Jordyn is older, I don’t sleep in the same bed with my wife and Jordyn when she spends the night. But before I retire to the guest bedroom, before Jordyn falls asleep, we still always pray together—in Jesus’ name.
